Life beyond politics is not life without politics, it’s about a transition to find balance and embrace other interests. It’s about eschewing an almost single-minded focus spanning four decades and pursuing passions beyond the political realm.
Political data expert and small biz owner. Art lover, driving enthusiast, fine diner, fly-fisher, first-class traveler, music fan, avid reader, sailboat racer. I once gave a damn, but not any longer.
In one version or another, depending on limitations, this is what all my social media bios say; and generally, it is accurate, but it’s also not the whole story.
The whole story is much longer.
In addition to my current pursuits, I’ve also had some stretches in my career when time allowed for various, now past, avocations. Over the years, I’ve found enjoyment in ice and rock climbing, team roping, and was a better-than-average golfer.
Also, I still do give a damn, but it’s also true that I have lost the desire to engage in political discourse because it’s no longer civil or productive.
What was once a means to a reasonable and valuable end, has devolved into an arena where angry and ignorant zealots simply try to out-yell one another. For those who still want to fight-the-fight, I applaud them, but I will not be part of the melee any longer.
To be certain, I still have a business that is involved in politics, but it is non-partisan and is purely service oriented. Our clients cross the ideology spectrum, but my job is to provide data not participate in the process, and I like it that way.
What you can expect to find here is best described as a hodge-podge of writing that encompasses my current interests, my former pastimes, an occasional piece about politics, and things that appeal to me from other people.
I hope you get at least as much distraction from your daily travails reading what’s here, as I do from writing it. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you come back often.
