This quickie mod is one of those hidden gems, at least for me since I’d never heard of the CG Lock before, and one that I now highly recommend.
I’ll not kid myself or you, this is not a substitute for a six-point harness by any stretch. But if you take a little time to get your stock seat position right and then add this lock, you will be secured into a proper driving position like the factory belts simply cannot provide.
It took me less than five minutes to install on each seat belt and I noticed an improvement in my driving almost immediately. My hands were lighter on the wheel because I didn’t feel like I had to “hang on” to keep from sliding around in my seat. I still use the dead pedal to brace myself a bit, but my feet are also freer to work the pedals, and it seems to make heel-toe downshifts much easier.
I bought a pair of these CG Locks from Winding Road Racing, though it seems they are widely available, and I would strongly suggest all spirited drivers – back country roads or track day – seriously consider giving them a shot. If your experience is anything like mine, you’ll be a fan after the first couple of tight turns.
