Today was the first decent weather we’ve had in this area in a couple weeks, so I took some time to give my MX-5 a quick cleaning – outside and inside – and knocked out a couple of modifications.
The first one today was to replace the door bushings with the CravenSpeed replacements. The entire process took less than 20 minutes and the doors now close with a very solid feel. I’m not sure there is any additional side-to-side stiffness, as some have touted, but the nice sound when the doors close was worth the small investment.
TIP: If you install these bushings I suggest (a tip I saw elsewhere) that you snug them up to screwdriver tightness first, then close the door to put the bushing in perfect position, and then dog them down with a socket.
The devil is in the details, and this is one detail I highly recommend.
