It’s been a very long time since I’ve indulged myself with a larger purchase but, for no reason other than fun, that changed recently with my new 2019 Mazda MX-5 RF GTS.
She’s not going to be my daily drive, rather an occasional weekend distraction from the grind of my all-consuming job.
While the car is pure fun to drive right from the dealership, though with the lingering winter we’re having in south central Pennsylvania my miles behind the wheel have been limited, I do have some aftermarket tweaks coming – and one small one already completed – that I’ll write about here as they are accomplished.
The genuinely enjoyable part of the driving experience in this two-seat roadster is you don’t have to bust the speed limits by much to experience the ride. The six-speed manual tranny and nimble handling make it a pure blast just to throw her into a series of twisting country roads, and with the hardtop retracted you get the best of a convertible while maintaining a stiffer ride with greater security.
All in, Mazda got it right with the new model changes, and with their slogan … Feel Alive.
